Course Info
Purpose

This STCW Elementary First Aid course aims to train the seafarer’s abilities to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until a medical first aider arrives. This is required in accordance with STCW chapter VI, section A-VI/1, table A-VI/1-3.

Structure

The course is conducted as theoretical and practical training at VIKING Safety Academy.

Content

The seafarer must understand and demonstrate proficiency the following: • General principles of first aid • Body structure and functions • Positioning of casualties • Handling of unconscious casualties • Rescue and transport of casualties • Resuscitation and bleeding • Management of shock • Burns, wounds and injuries caused by electricity

Seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship.
