Purpose
VIKING Safety Academy’s onboard training program ensures that crew are professionally trained for emergencies occurring onboard or externally with emphasis on accidents related to the maritime industry. The onboard development and training program consist of a full scope training package that is based on IMO and STCW requirements. The blended learning program is delivered as a combination of e-learning and practical hands on training.
Structure
The training program consist of a theoretical part and a practical part. Crew members can access their theoretical lessons via VIKING’s Learning Management System (LMS). Every month a new practical exercise, dealing with typical offshore accidents, is published to the LMS of participating vessels allowing crew to maintain their practical skills. The training facilitator onboard, most likely the chief officer, arranges the exercise, writes a report detailing the essential elements of the exercise and submits the report to the VIKING assessor team in the LMS, who gives a thorough feedback and approves the report.
