Purpose
This course is designed to meet safety and technical requirements for lifeboat and rescue boat systems. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of maintenance requirements and safety during drills and testing. Including MSC.402(96) requirements.
Structure
The course is conducted as theoretical and practical training at VIKING Safety Academy. Analyze real cases, participate in dynamic workshops and experience various equipment demonstrations.

The courses focuses on the following topics; • Design and main components • How they are made • How they work • Emergency use • Readiness status - stowed position • Crew competence requirements • Drills regulation & recommended procedures • Drills safety • How to perform weekly & monthly operational tests: practical hands-on • Weekly & Monthly Maintenance requirements • Spares for routine maintenance • Safety procedures to conduct routine maintenance • workshop: define onboard spares for replacement, follow OEM manuals, update maintenance log • Documentation required on board • Annual and five yearly inspection requirements. MSC.402(96) • Planning for annual and five yearly surveys • Service providers authorization and competence requirements • Annual inspection and operational testing demonstration • Five yearly inspection, operational testing explanation and overload testing requirements • Spares for replacement during Annual and five yearly maintenance • Safety and risks during inspections • Critical components • Annual & five yearly reports - documentation • PSC surveys on Lifeboat systems and preparedness for inspection • Live inspection exercise Covering; Conventional lifeboat systems Freefall lifeboat systems Rescue Boat systems Release gears Davits – winches Engines
